My first loaf

We got a bread maker for Christmas, and so today I tried it out. I downloaded a simple recipe off of the web and gave it a try. It tasted as good as it looked!

Day 2

This time I choose to follow the recipe that came with the machine. Check out my success!

Let me know if you are interested in investing in my new bakery business.

Greetings from Flu Central

Well it sure is barfy over here! JJ was up most of Monday night throwing up for half the night the had diarrhea the other half. Then when he woke up he threw up again twice so I looked in my homepathy book and ended up giving him arsenicum. Five minutes later he was asking for water and could finally keep it down! He hasn't thrown up since and is on the mend just being a little tired. Then today, I was on the way home from visiting teaching (I had Rachael and the little Bumble Bree (nickname courtesy of Melodie) when Rachael started throwing up in the CAR!!!! EWWWWWWWWWWW!!! Then she said she was fine and just started playing like nothing was wrong. So I read up on it and tried phosphorus and right after that she totally changed and got really "sick acting" and was throwing up more so I tried arsenicum for her and no more vomiting! So I told Jason and he thinks it's just a coincidence...*sigh*! So needless to say I am up to my elbows in laundry and housework, where's mommy when you need her???

one of the 10 weirdest patents

6.
System For Magnetically Attaching Templeless Eyewear to a Person

For the uninitiated, "temples" are the little arms on eyeglasses that go behind your ears to hold them on your face. According to this patent, temples "cause discomfort to the wearer ... and can even cause permanent creases in the wearer's head." Rather than go to his optometrist and get his glasses adjusted, inventor David Peschel decided to go the extra mile and waste years of his life solving a nonexistent problem.

Here's the thing, though: Judging by the illustration, this system requires you to surgically remove your ears and replace them with magnetic rings. That seems a little drastic, particularly when you consider the fact that GLASSES REALLY AREN'T THAT UNCOMFORTABLE.

OK, upon closer examination, it turns out the system works by sticking adhesive magnets to the sides of your head. In a way, that might actually be worse than surgically removing your own ears. At least people without ears are capable of dignity.

Take a look at this!

This is the ring that Tara decided that she liked. It's a really nice ring, but even better, it's super inexpensive! To give you a hint, my ring will probably cost more than hers. We know someone who sells diamonds at cost, so I think that we'll see if we can get some larger diamonds put in while still keeping the price roughly the same (it's a 10kt gold ring with 1/6 ct diamonds in it). I'd let you know when I was planning on asking her, but she reads this blog too, so.....you'll all just have to wait ;)

REMEMBER THE TEN THINGS GOD WON'T ASK ON THAT DAY.1... God won't ask what kind of car you drove. He'll ask how many people you drove who didn't have transportation.2... God won't ask the square footage of your house, He'll ask how many people you welcomed into your home.3... God won't ask about the clothes you had in your closet, He'll ask how many you helped to clothe.4... God won't ask what your highest salary was. He'll ask if you compromised your character to obtain it.5... God won't ask what your job title was. He'll ask if you performed your job to the best of your ability.6... God won't ask how many friends you had. He'll ask how many people to whom you were a friend.7... God won't ask in what neighborhood you lived, He'll ask how you treated your neighbors8... God won't ask about the color of your skin, He'll ask about the content of your character.9... God won't ask why it took you so long to seek Salvation. He'll lovingly take you to your mansion in heaven, and not to the gates of Hell.10... God won't have to ask how many people you forwarded this to, He already knows your decision.

That last one was obviously just to get you to forward it but the rest is so nice!

Jello: Dessert or Sidedish?

Ok, we had this debate in one of my meetings for Men's Chorus. Is Jello primarily a desert or a side dish? I'd like to hear what everyone here thinks (and I want to get an idea of who's really checking this and who's not)

Funny English Analogies Actually Used by High-Schoolers

2. His thoughts tumbled in his head, making and breaking alliances like underpants in a dryer without Cling Free.

3. He spoke with the wisdom that can only come from experience, like a guy who went blind because he looked at a solar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it and now goes around the country speaking at high schools about the dangers of looking at a solar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it.

4. She grew on him like she was a colony of E. Coli, and he was room-temperature Canadian beef.

7. He was as tall as a six-foot, three-inch tree.

12. Her hair glistened in the rain like a nose hair after a sneeze.

13. The hailstones leaped from the pavement, just like maggots when you fry them in hot grease.

24. It was an American tradition, like fathers chasing kids around with power tools.

Labour

Just so you know everyone, I 've decided to steal Tom's thunder...yet again. First, when I was born before him, then when I was waaaaaaaaaay cooler and better looking and now, having the 16th grandchild hot on his heels. It is 10:27pm and Jason and I are just waiting for the lady that is coming to watch the kids overnight and we're off to the hospital! Please pray for us....although by the time any of you read this the baby will probably already be born but whatever you can still pray!

Trenton Joshua Evans

Born Sept. 30th, 2007 at 10:17 pm (MST). Sorry we haven't gotten anything up sooner but it's been a little busy. And the pictures were taken with a camcorder, so they aren't the best. But at least you can see what he looks like. We'll post new pics as soon as we get some good ones.

I am cool

I just read President Ezra Taft Benson's talk entitled To The Mothers Of Zion and I have been reminded just what it is I'm supposed to be doing here on the earth. It's so inspirational and a chastisement to me for being so lax in this department. I was reading especially the ten ways to be a better mother and I am doing about 5 of the 10 so there is defininte room for improvement I'd say but at least I'm doing 5 so that's a small comfort. Anyway to all you mom's, soon-to-be and future ones as well, it's a talk well worth reading and keeping where you can review it often.

New Weiner Babies

*sigh* well since I'm writing this it means that I didn't go into the expected early labour that I wanted to. I wanted the baby to come yesterday so then J had the weekend off and it would've been the most convenient. But I spoke to my friend Jennie and she made the comment that she doesn't think the Lord cares much for convenience and I am now inclined to agree. Actually it makes a lot of sense since if everything in life was easy then how would we grow right? I will say though that not everything has to be HARD *ahem*! Also why is everything highlighted in my post?

Good news for me!

President Hinckley recently came and gave the devotional on Tuesday here at BYU, and one of the first things he mentioned was that the Marriott School recently was ranked #1 as a regional school in the entire US. Pretty neat eh?

Monday, 10 September 2007

Hey everyone! I just wanted to tell you that last night I tossed and turned til midnight trying to sleep and when I finally did, I was woken up at about 1:30am with a few contractions. They lasted sporadically until about 3am then stopped. Looks like it won't be long now!!! Well, at least it better not be!

The Dentist

So I made a trip to the dentist see, to get the low down on what's wrong with my tooth. Did you know that if you don't make regular visits to the dentist, even if you brush and floss, you can STILL get a cavity? Here's the kicker though: I had to get a root canal. I know I know, you're all thinking that it's really painful and expensive, but have no fear, I only had to consume about 8 ib profen, and shell out 900 bones. It's a good thing I'm rich eh? I've attatched a photo for your enjoyment

A relaxing sport?

I went golfing this morning in the rain and wind....I don't think that really had much of an effect on my final score though. I did manage to not lose any balls, although that certainly was not because I kept it on the fairway the whole time. In fact, I think it was a rare occasion when it wasn't in the rough, the trees, or the sand traps. Anyway, great game, that sport of golf.

New Apartment

Hey Family!!
I wanted to let you all know that Catherine, Derick, Baby Ava and I got approved for our new apartment today!! We're going to be living at Stoneybrook Apartments!!! And did I mention that our new apartment has a POOL!!! Booya!!! I have been wanting to live there for years and now it's finally happening!!
They weren't going to let us have it because it's on the 7th floor and they don't allow children above the 7th floor. I guess the super thought Cat and I were too awsome to just let us walk away so she got special permission to let us have the one on the 7th floor until a lower one is available!! I LOVE THAT WOMAN!!! So we all move in on Sept 1st and because my lease here isn't over until Oct1st I get the joy of having to pay for 2 apartments for a month but it will be worth it!!!
That's my news for the day! Love you All

You May Already Be a Weiner

I do enjoy the connection - thanks Jon for keeping going. In the summer ( 2-3 months ) we have to get all the vacation time in that we can so the blog may suffer- not to worry We'll be back
I had a great trip to BC to Uncle Peters son Bryn's wedding.
Also visited with Rob Lyon and went on a 2 day canoe trip into the wilderness of BC. Here are a few pics.

Great News for Me

Well, I won another contest....well, it's the same one, and this will make the third time I've won something, which isn't a surprise, because it's a guaranteed win anyway. But besides that, I'm also going to sign up for a free checking account with Key Bank out here, and they'll give me a free iPod Nano! Don't worry, I did it last year as well and it worked out just fine. Anyway, just thought I'd drop a line for all you non-blogging family members (geez, what the heck happened to all of you?!?!) Hopefully if I keep writing stuff, it'll jump start the rest of you...either that, or I'll end up with my own blog.

Wasting Time

Hey everyone, just sitting here in the control room at work. For some reason, I decided to sign up for an opening shift here at the library at 6:30 am, while also doing a closing shift yesterday night until 12:30, so needless to say, I am feeling rather dapper right about now. Hopefully I make it until 2:30. Anyway, just thought I'd let you know that Tara and I won another contest (we're just all around winners I guess), making our third "two night, three day stay at participating hotels across the US" prize. On a side note, completely unrelated, I'm still trying to decide if I should do Men's Chorus this year, because it'll be my first semester in the business school. Any ideas?

Gillian the Dumbillian

I'll thank you NOT to keep putting up dumb pictures of me!!! Seriously though, that was a pretty funny shot. I look like a cartoon character!! Anyway, I'm getting SUPER fat you'll all be glad to know and I cannot wait until this baby is on the other side of me. It takes up valuable real estate from my lungs and I also am a little disappointed that I'll be 8 months pregnant for my 30th birthday. *SIGH* Can you tell I need sympathy? K, well g'night!

Vacation time!

I've decided that I need to get away for a little bit, and so I'm planning on going on a vacation for a few days sometime soon. This will most likely be by myself, I'd like to get out of Utah/Idaho, and I want it to be cheap. Anyone have ideas? Let me know!!!

A little comic for ya!

Hey that's MY baby!!!

I just saw the pic that someone posted where the ugly dog used to be and I realized that that's one of the fruit of MY loins!! Funny thing is, I think it's Rachael but I can't be 100% sure. Does that mean I am a bad mom? If not that, maybe the fact that my oldest is posting pictures of skulls and shoot em up games of the blog may be another indicator. *sigh* Where did I go wrong? Next he'll be coming home with a mohawk and a tattoo!

I'm going to be doing similar work to what I'm doing now, only I'll get paid a lot more to do it. And I'll no longer be looking for interns.

I'm going to be working for a company called Aris and I get to work from home so that'll be fun. We'll most likely move as well at the end of the year.

For all those who think that I'm abandoning the Canadian ship, let me set your minds at ease and tell you that I have every intention of moving back there. Baby Names?

So Mel and I are almost at the point where we've picked the baby's name. Mostly it came down to lack of any other good ideas. We are leaning towards Joshua Tyler (or, if we wanted to be like all the hip, COOL name versions we could spell is Xhazhua Tielur). We most likely call him Ty or Tyler or JT. Dunno for sure yet.

If you wanna hear soem REALLY dumb names, check this site out!

New Credit Card

Hey! I just got approved for my first credit card today! Horay for me eh?

New Camera

I know I know, it looks like I'm on a spending craze, but I've done a couple months of research for this camera, and the price was right, so I jumped on it. Maybe now I'll start taking more pictures for everyone eh? It was a pretty good purchase too, about $150 with a memory card and case. Anyway, I think I'm done with all my spending now, although Tara and I did go to a Lexus dealership today.....

New Camera

Hey, Tara finally got a new camera! check it out at http://www.dpreview.com/news/0705/07050703canons5is.asp

By the way, I'm making everyone administrators so that they can put pictures up on the right hand corner. Has anyone heard from Jen? Is she just too busy dealing with the accident?

Little Pet Peeves

I'm writting this because I've discovered a little pet peeve of mine. People who eat crunchy things with their mouth open. I say this because I share an office with a guy who eats ice ALL FREAKING DAY. I swear I'm going to knock him out one of these days.

Baseball glove

I bought a baseball glove today for some upcoming softball games. It's funny because it wasn't a very expensive purchase, but it made me really happy to have one again. I felt like I was returning to a time when I used to play, and thought about how good that felt, to be part of a team, to be active, to have a hobby. It somehow feels as though it's adding definition, or color, to my life. Weird huh?

Mum and Dad & Family calendar of events

Just for your info this is our travel plans. We are trying to get around to see all of you as often as possible.
Can someone figure out how to link an Evans Google Calendar to this site??? this might be a good way to link our calendars together

First day at work

Hey all!

Just had my first day at work. I gotta say, I look pretty suave with my cool uniform, complete with clip-on tie. As for the job itself, well, it's looking to be pretty fun. I'm basing that all on the fact that we've got a candy machine in our office, and our supervisor gave us a free handful of Reces Pieces (how the heck do you spell that anyway?).

Sunday, 17 June 2007

Welcome Evans Family!

Here's to another attempt at keeping each other up to date with everything that's going on in everyone's lives! The other day Tara and I were describing each other's families to the other in preparation of the upcoming family reunions. I quickly discovered that I have no idea what's going with everyone, and my roommate suggested this. It's pretty simple, so hopefully that'll encourage people to update it every so often. Once we all do it for a few weeks, it'll be a habit!
